The practical purpose was to establish supporting data of a family therapy intervention to aid in the recovery of families bereaved by suicide.
Methods: To examine the perceived experiences of bereaved family members and the essential meaning of their grieving process, the researchers conducted in-depth phenomenological interviews with six bereaved family members. Phenomenological methods were also used for the organization and analysis of the data.
Results: Six essential topics emerged through analysis: ¡°life tied up momentarily,¡± ¡°entanglement of life and death,¡± ¡°each one may need time,¡± ¡°coping by separating life from death,¡± ¡°security as a signal of recovery,¡± and ¡°accompanying life and death.¡±
Conclusions: Through this study, the grieving process of a family bereaved by suicide was summarized as ¡°the process of starting a new life,¡± ¡°separation from entanglement,¡± and ¡°forgiving and moving on¡± as the family members overcame the pain and despair of the loss.
